A Marguerite

Poem - A Marguerite

In this desolate sandcastle under, I hung,

prejudice and beratement I experienced young

my only solace was the flowers that bloomed

dug down deep, I was there entombed

With tattered clothes, she lifted her heels

leaping over the fence that quivered my feels

a yegg she was when she took the flowers

that made me a guard day and night every hour

Until it struck me that I had to help

except I was grotesque and svelte

but that never hindered me, blooming something unique

just like the daisy frutescens, a marguerite

Flower Smeraldo, there I had

behind a mask, I ran a bit glad

lush petals elegantly flowered and flourished

till I realised the young girl had perished

- Mridini Sivakumar

(Poem inspired by the Italian tale, 'Flower Smeraldo')
